74 F100 LB conversion to SB

Postby BonsallPete » Sun Mar 05, 2017 9:42 pm

Bought a 1974 F100 long bed, and we are working on converting it to a short bed. We have named this thing "Frankenstein", because it was a hodge-podge of parts from different generation trucks: Stock engine, front end and cab.... F250 bed.... front drums from something other than a 74 front end.... a rear end from who knows what.... and years of cruddy scabbed welds, bolts, and parts. And, underneath, what seems like 40 years of oil and grease. What a mess...!

Stay tuned for photos to follow

Attempting to upload photos, seems like anything I try gets me this error message: "file too large"... will keep trying, and any input would be appreciated.

Bed had been taken off an F250 and bolted onto this frame. Pretty beat up and dented, but at least the rust isn't very bad.

We pulled off the bed and cab, shipped them off to the sandblasters. Got it back primed, after all the Bondo was blasted off. What we've go to work with is a bit ugly, some pretty significant dents will have to get worked out.

Next the engine came off, and then the markings went on to the frame to prep for cutting. Frame received a Z-cut, then rear end of frame got slid forward and overlapped front end of frame.
